James Hastings is a London-based writer and director with over a decade of experience in narrative filmmaking. He began making films at the age of 12, inspired by Steven Spielberg, and has since developed a body of work that spans award-winning short films, music videos, stage productions and commercials.

He is the founder of Hastings Infinity Films, which he established at age 12. Making a feature film on the side during his A Levels, he's always had a 'just do' attitude when it comes to creativity. Not going to Uni and just making films has led him to write/direct a number of short films that have screened internationally at festivals. His work includes Wild Bear, Hidden Insight, Make It Stop!, Off The Coast, and Slightly Red Handed. His films have been showcased at the BFI Southbank, BFI IMAX London and Cannes Film Festival, with James attending as one of it's youngest directors. He has received a production grant from Kino London, was awarded 'best director' at Folkestone Festival and has had his work distributed by platforms such as Omeleto, Film Shortage, FILMD and Indie Crib.

In 2017, James received the Inspiring Young Filmmaker Award in recognition of his early achievements, before going on to serve as a Global Youth Ambassador for RoundTable Global. In addition to his film work, he has directed music videos featuring leading West End performers Kerry Ellis, Jamie Muscato and Bradley Jaden, and wrote/directed an original stage musical Everything Between Us, further demonstrating his range as a storyteller.

James currently works for London-based production company Pictures For The People, where he directs branded and commercial content for clients including UNiDAYS, Kier, and Frontline as well as self-shooting around the country, most notably at Buckingham Palace, Abbey Road Studios and Southbank Centre. His work in this space combines strong narrative sensibilities with a clear understanding of audience and purpose.

 

His upcoming short film, TUNA, is currently in the works.
